10 Things You Can Do To Stop The Creeping Weight Gain

We all have at least one time a year when life seems so busy that it all just doesn’t fit in our days. Lately, my biggest contender for my time has been my day job. It’s been creeping into an early morning, evening and sometimes even late night job too. Due to the busyness, my typical routine has been quite askew. With the lack of usual routine my health has been suffering a bit. More specifically the weight has been creeping on.

The Breaking Point

Last week I hit the point in my weight gain that my clothes aren’t fitting. Like just about all of them don’t fit. I kind of hit freak out mode. This was finally the breaking point.

Among my clothes not fitting, it seems my Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia hasn’t been liking my extra laptop time either. I’m feeling that extra weight in my hips, my legs, my back. (Kind of feel like I’ll be breaking into a whiny, rhyming song here soon).

When I do get myself away from the laptop, I’m eating out a bunch to get out of the house and activity hasn’t been at the top of my list. I’ve been totally off my A game folks!

The Peak of Change

Saturday, I attempted to pull on my “baggy jeans”. They weren’t baggy anymore. Actually, they were too tight. A shopping trip did help a little but it isn’t fixing the problem. The bill of a couple hundred dollars to get clothes to wear during the week was a good push for me to open my eyes that I needed to make some big ole changes. Awareness of these habits is always the first step.

10 Things You Can Do to Help Stop the Weight from Creeping On

  1. Drink more water. Replace the cups of coffee or sodas your chugging to stay awake with water.
  2. If you need something other than water, drink Green Tea. This is a good, cleansing tea for your body.
  3. Set a bedtime and stick to it. More sleep = better overall wellness.
  4. Set a time to leave the computer and make yourself follow it. Accept that only so much can be completed in a day. Being totally honest here, this time varies for me each day. I still am going to have the extra long days but I’m making sure that I’m not doing it every day now.
  5. Take a walk a few times a week. I’m finding this a great stress reliever and a way for me to clear my mind in the evenings.
  6. Go for a hike on the weekends. This is a bit more strenuous than an evening walk and will help boost your metabolism.
  7. Do some crunches every day. Check out my ‘What Happened When I Did 30 Crunches Every Day for 30 Days‘ Post for some inspiration.
  8. Meditate for at least 5 minutes every day. I know this sounds a bit absurd for weight loss but it will help you manage your stress. Stress can be a catalyst for weight gain.
  9. Plan out some quick, healthy meals you can cook at home and stock the fridge. If your lunch break has been getting skipped, keep high protein snacks on hand that you can munch on in replacement.
  10. Take your vitamins and minerals. This is going to help your body perform at its best.

A Start in the Right Direction

This isn’t my end all or my magical solver of all problems. But it is a step in the right direction. And it will get me through this crazy time until I can get back to my good, solid routine.

  1. I love this post and the tips as well. I’ve just started using an app to drink enough water and it seems to be working pretty well. Not I need to just stop all the snacking and start moving more and hopefully I can slowly start to drop some of this weight!
