Low self-esteem can negatively affect virtually every aspect of your life – from your physical and mental health to your career and relationships.

Here are 5 habits that can help you boost your confidence in an instant:

Stop comparing yourself to others.

Nothing will kill your self-esteem faster than constantly comparing yourself to others. Think about it: you’ve only got a limited amount of time to spend on this planet, so why would you waste it on wishing you were someone else?

Besides, you never know what kind of battle someone else is secretly fighting, so do yourself a favor and break free of envy and resentment towards people who seem to have it all.

Start by making a list of things you love about yourself and read it to yourself out loud every day. Each time you get the urge to compare yourself to another person, think about all the things in your life you’re grateful for. Finally, try to transform comparison into motivation by letting the lives of others inspire you to work harder and take better care of yourself.

Set goals and stick to them.

The satisfaction you get every time you achieve one of your life goals is exactly what genuine self-confidence feels like. We all have our moments of self-doubt that make us question our purpose in life, and this is where goal-setting can make a huge difference.

Whether it’s changing your career, losing weight, learning a new skill, or overcoming a phobia, your goals should be based on your personal interests and values. Forget about what the society tells you about life goals. Not everyone’s idea of happiness includes a corporate career or a life of luxury.
