2017 Bucket List Recap & 2018 Bucket List Goals

Whew, what a year 2017 was. Lots of twists and turns came about this year but I’m still proud to say that I was able to get some items crossed off my bucket list!

  1. Visit New Orleans.
  2. Try absinthe (of course this happened in New Orleans in some super cool underground bar).
  3. Put Mentos in Diet Coke. Yes this was on my list, I never did this as a kid so I set out to knock this one off the list with my kiddo.
  4. Make a sun-melted candle.
  5. Go in a sensory deprivation tank.
  6. Bet on a horse race.
  7. Go on a Troeg’s Brewery Tour.
  8. Go to a St.Patrick’s Day Parade.
  9. Try Guinness.
  10. See a tornado. Okay the real bucket list item was to chase a tornado but having a front row (meaning standing at the door outside) seat to one in your office’s parking lot is pretty darn close!
  11. Grow a lemon tree. This one is still in the works, but hey I started it!
  12. Tour the Haines Shoe House in York.
  13. Run a 10 mile race.
  14. Go to a Wine and Paint Nite.
  15. See a broadway show in NYC.

Not too shabby for making some things happen this year!

Bucket lists help us set a plan to add fulfillment and excitement into our lives. They give us a little structure and help us schedule in adventures that we dream of. I can’t wait to see what all 2018 will bring for me! Here’s some of the things on my list:

  • Ride a train to Philadelphia and NYC.
  • Try a spaghetti donut.
  • Finish my novel and publish it.
  • Go to a roller derby.
  • Go to a Murder-Mystery dinner.
  • Visit New Hope, PA.
  • Take my son to Dylan’s Candy Store in NYC. His name is Dylan so this one is a bit fun and sentimental.
  • Visit the Baltimore Zoo. Can you believe I live so close and have never been?!
  • Master my grandmother’s Sand Tart recipe.
  • Tell a story at Story Slam/Storytellers.
  • Allow myself to be flawed, embrace my flaws.
  • Sleep in a tree house.
  • Go fruit picking.
  • Learn to belly dance.
  • Go to the movies alone.
  • Make a time capsule.
  • Attend a Wanderlust.
  • Go to the Seawitch Festival in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
  • Try Ratatouille.
  • Stay at a bed and breakfast.

What’s on your bucket list for 2018?

My Travel Bucket List – 70 and Counting!

I sat down this morning to take some time to explore my personal life values and the desires I have for my life. I really took the time to dig deep, creating a super long list of all the values that are important to me. Narrowing them down to a handful and I discovered that there are some things I really want in my life, that I talk about all the time, but I haven’t been making as many actionable steps towards them that I should be making:

1. Adventure

2. Exploration

3. Discovery

In my younger years I didn’t really take the opportunity to explore the world as much as I would have liked to. When I look back at some of my happiest moments it was when I was traveling and exploring new places…like Maine, like North Carolina, Canada…my list is kind of short…but if you look at my Bucket List it is filled with places to visit and adventures to be had. This past year, after watching an interesting Netflix show called No Tomorrow, I bought a little black book and got to work really nailing down some bucket list essential stuff…even though I’ve been crossing some goodies off of it, I’ve only knocked one travel goal off of it – visit New Orleans. I got distracted from building my dream of travel and this morning during my self-discovery and reflection sess I was reminded of it…which let me honest, some of the adventures are pretty specific…oh and it’s a bit long too…but hopefully it’ll give you some ideas too!

15 Things to Add to Your Fall Bucket List

I had a little help from my son with this post, as we sat at the kitchen table Saturday morning thinking about the things we want to do together in the next few months. I’m a huge fan of bucket lists. Bucket lists set into motion little adventures (and big adventures). Here’s our little round-up of adventures to have this Fall full of creativity, some tasty treats, science experiments, and a little travel.

4) Make pumpkin ice cream pie

5) Paint self-portraits

6) Visit the Baltimore Zoo

11) Go horseback riding

12) Make homemade hot cocoa

13) Design our own mugs to drink our hot cocoa out of

My Artist’s Bucket List – Exploring New Territory

As an artist I am always looking for ways to grow. I have several forms of art and artistic expression that I am eager to try.

Oil Painting – my go-to paint choice has always been acrylic, in the last year I’ve expanded into water colors but I still have yet to give oils a try so that’s most definitely on my list!

Macrame – The beautiful wall hangings and jewelry that I’ve seen come from this wonderful craft are beautiful. I think this is a skill that will take more patience but I think it will be relaxing and rewarding.

Pottery – Think “Ghost”. How could you not want to try this? I’m a Virgo, meaning I’m an Earth sign and it absolutely intrigues me to be able to create something from such an earthy substance. I cannot imagine not liking the feel of building and creating something within my hands.

Figure Drawing – I’ve started dabbling in this as I explore with oil pastels but this is something I would like to really take the time and dig into. The art of the shape of the human body is beautiful and I truly want to be able to depict it on paper.

Weaving – The intricate designs and colors that can be captured within a woven piece is amazing. How each piece can tell a story of its handcrafted journey.

Calligraphy – I am a quote and inspirational words fanatic. I think this would be a wonderful skill to master to share that love.

Screen Printing – Old school style. I tried this out when I was in school and it is so cool putting your artwork onto the fabric. I would like to revisit this skill.

Dance – I have had dance on my bucket list for a while. The expression that can be shared through the art of dance can be quite powerful. There are many forms of dance that can be explored.

There are so many forms of art out there. What kinds of art do you do and what’s on your bucket list to try?

My Bucket List

During my 2017 Goals & Intentions Planning, I sat and revisited my Bucket List…this has been growing and transforming over the years realigning me with what I feel is a purpose in my life.

Let’s start by taking a look at what I checked off at my 2016 Bucket List:

Make a bucket list. Have some paintings in an art show (woot, was in three this year!), paint a self-portrait…okay so I didn’t do too much checking off in 2016 but I did still have some amazing other adventures – rode in a bi-plane, went to Chincoteague, VA, smashed a car (like in a car smash event, not in a crash kind of way – which was surprisingly invigorating!) to name a few.

2016 became about finding myself again, a year of discovery and a lot about building strength and healing and that’s what I needed. I set two very key words for myself for 2017 – Completion and Adventure; action words.

I broke off  my Bucket List into two groups: Things to Happen This Year and Long Term Things.

Things to Happen In 2017:

Run three 5ks.

See a broadway show in NYC. (This one is already booked – seeing Wicked in March, so excited!)

Own a boutique/art gallery. (Plan on launching my e-boutique this year.)

Make a dream-catcher.

Go to a Pittsburgh Penguins game.

Finish writing my fantasy novel and publish it.

See snow on the beach.

Become a Certified Life Coach.

Try rock climbing.

Go on a cruise.

Take dance lessons.

Publish an article on Elephant Journal.

Visit New Orleans.

Have artwork in five shows.

Make a Christmas Song album. (Because I love singing Christmas songs lol)

Go on a hot air balloon ride.

Learn to belly-dance.

Long Term:

Go horseback riding on the beach.

Go in a sensory deprivation tank.

Catch a marlin.

Become a Certified Crystal Healer.

Go on a mission trip.

Visit Thailand.

Visit an Elephant Reservation.

Go to a World Cup Game.

Visit California.

Visit Colorado.

See The Northern Lights.

Visit a monastery.

Go on a mural tour trip.

There’s a lot on there! I chose to set high goals and make long lists because I expect to gain a lot of life. We were put here to explore and experience and I intend to get as much as I can out of life. I may not make all of these in a year or even in the next five years but I’m okay with that. If I don’t at least set the intent then I’ll never try and I’ll never know. I believe in reaching for the moon, and even if I fail I will still fall among the stars!

2017 Magical Manifesting Diary Review

One of the things I love so much about blogging is the opportunity to meet so many like and loving souls. I met Shan – I felt an instant connection to just in the little bit of time we’ve chatted. I feel like we are kin spirits, aligned in our journeys, with paralleled thoughts. She gave me the wonderful freedom of reviewing her 2017 Magical Manifesting Diary. It really is a magic-making book!

I absolutely love the theme of this diary, adventure. That is my own theme of life as well, spread love and adventure all throughout your life.

The illustrations are wonderful, simple yet crafty. I truly enjoyed the positive direction of the planner. It is very motivating and uplifting. She keeps the instruction thorough yet simple and easy to follow. I really found myself connecting and relating to what shew was saying. This diary gently guides the reader into a wondrous world of thought and discovery. The poetry of the words make me follow my imagination, feeling like a little kid again filled with enthusiasm and ambition.

I love how she includes great spiritual tips, habits, and practices throughout the diary. They were spread out wisely so not to be overwhelming. This diary is set up perfectly to unleash creativity in anyone, positioning so many great images and space to color and doodle but in a way that creates balance between release and organization. Wonderful list of resources at the end as well for soul-reading throughout the year.

This is a great diary and I am very much looking forward to diving into it!

My Bucket List…and why I made One

Having a bucket list is the trendy thing to do right? I used to think so a little bit (and don’t get me wrong, I do love to be a little trendy sometimes) but this is one I wish I had jumped on the band wagon a long time ago… I’ve always been kind of a free spirit but I was a boxed in one for awhile. Last year I had some trials that broke me and boy am I glad they did. The great thing about breaking is you get to decide how to put everything back together again…so among many other things I made a bucket list. It’s more than just a list (and I love lists and post it notes too! – this is something people learn about me pretty quickly – you can witness this in a previous post, my Instagram challenge post – pic of my quotes wall covered with post it notes! Sorry – I’m rambling and getting off track here…) So a bucket list, so much more than just a list, it’s a place you can organize your goals, your wanted and awaiting adventures, it’s a place to put your dreams… and you can put a little box next to each line that is fun to check off when you get it accomplished too! My bucket list has small things and it has big things and it is continuously growing which makes it evergreen. It’s a place I can organize all those crazy thoughts and ideas that run through my mind, it’s a place that I look for ideas and inspiration when I feel stuck, it’s a place I can mix freedom with organization, a perfect collection of tasks waiting to be touched…so without further ado – here is my bucket list (it’s a bit long because I’m a shoot for the moon kind of gal):

  • Make a Bucket List – check! did it!
  • Catch a Marlin, have it mounted for display.
  • Write & Publish a Book.
  • Learn to Belly Dance.
  • See A Broadway Show in NYC.
  • Visit Thailand.
  • Own a Boutique/Art Gallery.
  • Become a Certified Crystal Healer.
  • Complete a Smash Book.
  • Make a Dream Catcher.
  • Have some of my paintings in an Art Show – check! Yay!
  • Visit California.
  • Visit Colorado.
  • Create an Art Journal.
  • See the Northern Lights.
  • Here’s an interesting one – Go in a Sensory Deprivation Tank.
  • Go to the World Cup.
  • Go see an Oprah Show.
  • Ride an elephant.
  • Go on a hot air balloon ride – P.S. I’m terrified of heights so this is a big one, but hey My Mom and my Grandpa did it so let’s conquer this one!
  • Learn to play violin, guitar, or piano.
  • Go horseback riding on the beach – fairytalish right!
  • Paint a self-portrait.
  • Get my passport – seems simple right, just never got around to it, so task added!
  • Go to a Pittsburgh Penguins Game.
  • Go on a Mission Trip.

Let’s stop there…it goes on…I’m a dreamer, it happens, but we’ll save it for another post another day ; )  We’ll end today with a thought inspired from a painting of mine… “when you’re in water, swim. when you’re in the air, fly!”
