12 Ways to Make the Most Out of a Rainy Day

How do you feel about rainy days? Do you find yourself feeling slumped? Do you put your activities on hold, stuck in a spiral of bummed out feelings?

Rainy days don’t have to be bummed out days. You can embrace them, take comfort in the solitude and tranquility they can bring to you.

I love a good rainy day. A chance to slow down my routine a bit. To take advantage of the drops hitting the ground, reminding me to be mindful of what is brought to me in my life. I perceive rain as an opportunity for cleansing. As the rain washes the dirt from the road, I can take the day to refresh my soul and my mind.

  1. Catch up on laundry – this is such a great day to get caught up on some of your home chores. You’re stuck in the house and have the opportunity to check some things off your to-do list for some peace of mind. Take advantage!
  2. Curl up and read a book.
  3. Stay in your pajamas and have a movie-thon or get a good day of Netflix binging in of your favorite show.
  4. Paint a portrait.
  5. Do an art & craft or a DIY project that you’ve been wanting to try.
  6. Clean up your computer files.
  7. Research and plan your next vacation – lift your spirits by thinking of how you’ll be enjoying the sunshine when it returns!
  8. Cook and prep your meals for the week.
  9. Have an at home spa day – take a long bubble bath, give yourself a facial, deep condition your hair, paint your nails.
  10. Have a game night.
  11. Spend some time on self-development – join an online development workshop, take an online course, journal.
  12. Meditate or do an at-home Yoga Practice.

A Letter To My Past Lovers (Dear My Once Called Darling Love)

To All My Past Lovers:

I hope you go out there and find yourself. I hope you explore and experience the world with eyes wide open. Maybe I gave you too much, maybe I didn’t give you enough. Maybe I hurt you, maybe you hurt me, or maybe we hurt each other. Maybe we were too different or maybe we too much of the same. I hope you are learning to let go. I hope you have forgiven. I hope you have moved on. I am ready to forgive. I am ready to let go. I am ready to move on. I want to let go of the pain we had when we were together and when we left each other. I want to start a new relationship with someone else and leave ours behind. Not to be forgotten, but to leave the baggage and take only the lessons learned and the strength grown. I want to have fresh eyes and an open heart again. I want you to have the same. I want us to both be free.

I have thought these words many times yet there is still a deep part of me that holds on. This is a lesson of detachment I must learn, one of many lessons I am learning. I allowed my heart to harden from pain and disappointment from past relationships. Though I in many ways have moved on, there are still fragments that I cling to. I am ready to leave these behind. I am ready to start anew with someone new. When we allow those little fragments to stay within us we drag them everywhere we go and into new relationships. This can be weighing over time. I am sharing these words to set them free, to push them into the vast airs of the worlds. These words come from my heart. I do not wish ill to any of my lost relationships or friendships. I hope that we have all learned and grown from all of our experiences. I truly believe there is a lesson in everything but today I am choosing to take the lesson but leave the resent and the pain. Today I set myself free.

I Hit The Pause Button

It’s been such a while since I’ve written, shared, or to be honest even visited my blog. It wasn’t that I was turning my back on all of you or my dreams. I just found myself overwhelmed with all the things going on in my life. I tried hard at the beginning to stick to my routines and to push through the chaos but I kept sliding, feeling like I was in the middle of a meteor shower with all space rocks being hurdled at me. I learned quite a lesson about how self-care can mutate in our lives depending on what’s going on in our lives. At first, I lectured myself and felt guilty for not sticking to my tasks and my daily habits. I felt down and out and so stressed then I started letting things fall off my plate. (I had quite the process of the last few months happen in my mind). I started wondering that if by holding myself so strict to all of my habits and to my task list was hindering my ability to get through this stressful time in my life. I started allowing myself to let go and convincing myself that it was okay and I could come back to all the things I loved and get back on plan again once things calmed down. As good as I like to think I am, my brain just didn’t have the capacity to process all that was running through it. I needed to set some things aside. This was another lesson in my life about self-love and self-care. Giving up didn’t mean I was quitting, in actuality I was just putting some things on pause. The truth is that even if we are practicing amazing daily habits that are getting us closer to our goals, life still can throw some big curve balls at us and sometimes we need to shelf things…and that’s okay! It doesn’t mean we quit on our dreams or abandoned anyone or anything. It just means we are taking the time and space to deal with what’s in front of us at that time. I still have some hectic weeks ahead of me (I am sooooo looking to some slower schedules come fall!!!) but I’m able to see the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter so I’m slowly adding my habits, my tasks, and my goals back to the planner. I am looking forward to getting back to my routines and with a new perspective on life I am excited to go after them in new light!

A Day in My Life – Weekend Bliss & Tasks

Get To Know Your Blogger

What’s a day in my life like? Well I make sure I have at least a little adventure in each day. I focus on finding beauty and peace in each of my days. I make sure to do at least three things to help me get closer to my goals. I include some self-care practices into every day. And I like to have a little fun each day.

Before everyone woke up, I was able to get some quiet time at the kitchen table with my planner. I used this time to work on some editorial planning for my blog while I drank my morning cup of tea.

Well the kiddo is up…the interesting sound effects that are coming from the living room…I let my son play some video games in the morning while I worked on wrapping up some chores.

The pups take a late morning nap while I finish putting my clean clothes away.

Finding inspiration and peace in watering my lemon tree plant.

Trying out our crafty sides, my son and I made a sun-melted candle…it wasn’t too hot today though so it hasn’t melted yet but we’re looking forward to a hot day to see the finished project!

Checked off my to-do list making all natural dog shampoo and soap for a local dog shop.

Took a few minutes to add some ideas/blog posts to my editorial calendar…yeah I pretty much keep my computer open all day for intermittent tasks…not the best habit but it’s working for me for now.

Post bath time pic of the pups, washed up with all natural doggie shampoo with lemon and lavender pure essential oils.

In my thirties and I had never done the Diet Coke & Mentos Experiement. Well I can check that off my bucket list now! You can see a snippet of the go-down on YouTube here

Celebrating Memorial Day with a picnic food dinner. Hamburgers, Hotdogs, Homemade Pickles, Pasta Salad, and more, yum!

Cookie Cake is my favorite (aside Chocolate Torte). I eat (several) small pieces to psych myself into believing I’m not actually eating almost the whole thing.

Starting a Tarot Card Journaling Challenge this week – I’ll pull a card each day and write how it is relevant to my life and what my intentions are after considering my reading. Tarot Card Reading is a great way to pursue intuition reading and reflection.

Back to some blogging tasks – adding tasks to my CoSchedule calender…which I am finding a blessing of a service for organizing and managing my blog.

Some evening Yoga & Meditation to relax and decompress from the day. Shameless plug – I absolutely love the stuff I get from ProSource and love their prices too – if you’re a yogi, or even an all around fitness enthusiast, this place is worth checking out.

Winding down with a cup of hot tea (I easily drink 5 cups of tea a day) and a movie with the fam.

How To Be Productive On A Sick Day

So I found myself feeling down and out yesterday morning, less than motivated to get anything done on a very busy week. Sick days are never convenient especially for us “always keeping busy and always have something to do” types. But when your body calls for some healing time you shouldn’t ignore it. king at my to-do list, however, I knew it wasn’t a day I could give up completely to stay in bed. Luckily I have a job that I can remote into and work from home on days needed and with budget time approaching soon I couldn’t feel more blessed to have that option. I needed to create a day where I could take my sick time but also still push through some productivity and accomplish some tasks.

How To Be Productive On A Sick Day: Tips and Tricks to Help You Take Time To Heal but Still Get Things Done

1.) Take it Easy – I chose not to shower and get dressed. I chose to save that energy for meetings later in the day. I spent the day curled up in bed behind my laptop keeping me warm and comfy. This gave me a bit of sense of security not having to face anyone in person when I wasn’t feeling my best. Write out a realistic list of tasks that you think you can accomplish throughout the day.

2.) Start Small – Take a peek at your to-do list and see what tasks range closer to the “easy” side. For me, it was tackling sponsored Facebook posts. The verbiage is basically copy and paste so I didn’t have to get much thinking going early in the morning. Chose tasks that are also self-sufficient. Like laundry, this is a chore that you can throw in the washer and then let the washer do its thing. Save any hand-washing for another day.

3.) Hydrate – make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day. This will help you stay more energized and it will help flush out the toxins. I am a huge fan of tea especially when I’m not feeling well so I kept a cup of hot tea by my side most of the day.

4.) Put on Some Background Noise – For me, this meant a good Netflix binge. The background noise kept me feeling more awake to work but still relaxed enough that I didn’t feel stressed.

5.) Take Breaks – Be honest about your limits when you don’t feel good. Take frequent breaks throughout the day. Remember a sick day is about resting so you can get better. Sick days are not the days to take over the world…save that for tomorrow when you’re feeling back to par!

Bonus – Go to be early! Remember that there is always another day, “what doesn’t get done today will get done another day”.

I knew I needed to give myself some extra self-care so that I could get better but I am also one that will stress about what I’m not getting done while I’m laying in bed being sick so I curated my plan of attack so that I could find the right balance to work for myself. This isn’t to say that every sick day can have this plan…some sick days you just have to let it all go and stay in bed!

Inspiration & Motivation For When It’s Tough To Keep Going

I was browsing through some old posts, doing my monthly reflecting thing, and I came across this one. I wrote it in September of 2014, a true turning point in my life. With Easter soon here, it brings thoughts to mind of hope and new beginnings, a thought of how true pain can bring upon us glorious resurrection. I can’t say that my life became easy, or that heartache stopped to exist in my life after this turning point, and maybe some days I still don’t take it in the best stride, but I do come back from it every time, stronger than I was before. I can’t help but imagine that I am being trained for something so much greater out of this life. In the last three years, I’ve suffered more loss and held greater heartaches but I will not give up hope ever. I refuse to believe that life is anything other than a gift, that our suffering is anything other than lessons. I refuse to roll over and lay. My spirituality has shifted some as I grow but my core beliefs remain the same and I still believe.

We live by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)

I have experienced many trials, challenges, and heartaches in my life (so far) but I do not look back at them with regret or resentment.  A couple of years ago when my ex left me three months before our wedding I was crushed, the very center I had built my future around had been shattered. Though I didn’t know it then, I had been saved. When my Grandmother passed away, I was deeply saddened, but with that sadness I found strength and courage. When my son was angry and told me he hated me I felt as if my heart had been pierced but it gave me focus and motivation to show him how much I loved him, to be a better Mother.
We will all have tragedies in our lives. Some we bring on ourselves, some that are dealt to us, but do not look at them as defeat, for there is no such thing as defeat. These are just twists in our path.

If it wasn’t for my heartaches, for the challenges I overcame then I wouldn’t be where I am today, or who I am today (or have the relationships I have today). Some hurdles I soared over, some I barely climbed but I can say with pride and boast that I survived them, I survived. The Universe does not break our lives but will always be there to give us strength to survive. We will be given the tools to rebuild. Life will always have tests – tests of strength,  tests of courage, and tests of faith.
Having faith isn’t about knowing what the outcome will be, it is about trusting that in the end it will all be well. I used to have a close friend that would always say, “It will be okay and if it’s not okay, then it is not the end”. Those words still linger in my mind. I truly believe that we are placed (or sometimes walk ourselves into) situations so that we may grow, that we may better ourselves. Ten years ago I didn’t have that same belief, I thought the world was against me. But then I learned some valuable advice – what makes us strong, what makes us happy, and what makes us wise is not what happens to us but it is in how we  react to it. I choose to be happy, therefore I am.

I don’t know what all will happen tomorrow but I do know that I will have faith to make it through and that I will come out a better person because of it.

I Choose to be, Therefore I am.

5 Go-To Apps to Stay Balanced in a Busy Life

In today’s world so many of us are always on the go, juggling several tasks all at once, it can be tough to keep organized. As much as sometimes I hate to admit it, I’d be lost without my phone. As a blogger, marketing manager, and fitness & wellness geek my phone is my on the go bestie. Besides the several times of day I’m on social media sites sharing a post or sending a message, I also use my phone to help keep myself on task and on track.

Evernote
– This app is a godsend for me and my ever-racing mind. It gives me a place to put my ideas and thoughts while I’m on the go. Even in the car, I can use the talk to text to capture a thought. I love that the app also gives me the opportunity to organize my notes into notebooks feeding my need to categorize and helping me find the notes quickly later.

Fitness Apps – I currently use a few to keep track of my fitness goals, exercise, and activity. My FitBit app collects all of my steps and I love that it senses my activity throughout the day. It took me a while to jump onto the FitBit wagon but I am so glad I did! I love this because I can set daily and weekly goals, check my heart rate during my exercises, and review my sleep habits plus can see a text or call come through while I’m on the treadmill. I also use Map My Run and Map My Ride to help me train. They are a great place to record stats.

Prism
– This is a great app to help me stay on top of my bills. I set reminders of upcoming bills, can see when my next paycheck is coming in compared to upcoming bills, and it even has a feature to allow me to pay my bills through the app.

Wildflowers
– I love this app! This is a wonderful app to practice Mindful Meditation with. You can choose your mood and it will suggest guided meditations based on your mood. The music and voices are soothing and relaxing. Great for a quick before bedtime meditation.

PicMonkey
– I have been using PicMonkey for a while for editing photos for my blog. Having an app has been great for editing pics for social media posts. I can crop quickly and easily to fit different social media sites using their templates, edit lighting, add text, and add additional filters.
