10 Quotes from Maya Angelou to Motivate you to Live a Better Life

Sometimes we need a little kick in the butt. Some words to get us out of our heads and back on track. Being a quote junkie, I find this inspiration by collecting quotes and surrounding myself with them.

  1. “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.”
  2. “My mission in life is not to merely survive, but to thrive, and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”
  3. “We may encounter many defeats but we must not be defeated.”
  4. “Nothing will work unless you do.”
  5. “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”
  6. “All great achievements take time.”
  7. “Prejudice is a burden that confuses the past, threatens the future and renders the present inaccessible.”
  8. “Whatever you want to do, if you want to be great at it, you have to love it and be able to make sacrifices for it.”
  9. “I got my own back.”
  10. “Courage – you develop courage by doing small things like just as if you wouldn’t want to pick up a 100-pound weight without preparing yourself.”

Mistakes are something I find that my thoughts revolve around quite often. Naturally I am typically pretty hard on myself when I make a mistake. Maybe it’s being a Virgo or maybe it’s something else but I find it very easy to fall into a nasty judgmental and super critical state of mind  when it comes to me making a mistake…but that’s not healthy and I’ve learned that over the years that it causes more damage than it does motivation. There is a difference between learning from a mistake and beating yourself up for it…one lets you move forward and grow and the other beats you down and roadblocks healthy progress. When I find myself getting a little rough in my thoughts I channel my inner Bob Ross, “We don’t make mistakes, just happy accidents”, and I remind myself of how my mistakes in life have pushed me to be grow and to redirect to a better path made for me. I know that not all mistakes are as simple as that and I hold regret when my mistake has caused someone pain but what I am learning more and more to do is to search for the meaning in my mistakes, let go of the pain and focus on the lesson. Focus on how I can mend my mistakes, grow from them and become a better person and do a better job. Sometimes what seems like a mistake or an accident really isn’t that at all, it’s an opportunity…every time I made a mistake in my life, whether it was at work, a failed relationship or even spilled milk (silver lining – opportunity to the clean the floor right?), I learned more about myself, learned to love myself more, and grew more into the person I am meant to be. So no more beating myself up for making mistakes – we all make them – own them, learn from them and grow.

Let it be what it is…you will find peace there.

“A secret to happiness is letting every situation be what it is, instead of what you think it should be.”

This is one of the many quotes that hang on my wall.

A secret to life is to believe that every thing has a purpose.

Good times bring us joy and bring us up, rough times give us lessons that make us stronger.

I believe we all are made for a higher purpose of some kind.

Our experiences in our lives will help us become what and who we are meant to be if you are open to the lessons and the growth that they bring with them.

Believe that though you may not be in control of what is occurring around you, that you can control your self, and believe that what is is supposed to be.

Have patience in your journey and in your growth. With every experience we become stronger and closer to our destiny.
