Do you ever have those mornings that you awake and you just feel uninspired? I do. Not too often but they happen. Typically more in the Winter on the cold, dreary (sleeting) days. Those are the days I am not feeling too excited to get out of bed.
You don’t have to stay uninspired.
Maybe it’s just a funk. Maybe you’re struggling with creative block. Or maybe it’s just a bad day. Whatever it is, you can turn it around.
I know I sound like one of those mighty inspirational speakers you see on brochures and at hotel convention halls. But seriously, you can. A little boost, a little self-talk, you can change your mindset.
First, accept where you are mentally.
Don’t fight it. Just say, “Okay, this is how I’m feeling right now.” You don’t have to like it but just let it be what it is for the moment. Accept it so that you can move forward. I’ll be honest, I have a notorious history of fighting feelings and then shoving them aside. Guess what, they’re still there. And because I didn’t accept them and just sit with them for a moment they fester. It’s okay to just be uncomfortable for a little bit. It’ll pass if you let it.
Affirmations work wonders in these situations. Sit and state some positive affirmations to yourself – out loud. Say this, “I’m feeling in a funk. It will pass. It will be okay.”
This is kind of along the same lines as self-talk. Journal out your feelings. Maybe there’s some emotions stuck in there that are giving you that block. Write it out. And then end with a positive affirmation.
Find some inspiration from the outside.
- Call a friend.
- Search Pinterest for ideas.
- Watch a funny movie.
- Do a creative activity like painting, coloring or cooking.
- Meditate or Pray.
- Listen to music.
- Explore and research – visit other blogs, read stuff online, look at a magazine.
- Reflect – revisit some of your older work.
- Take a nap. Sometimes this helps you reset.
The key is to find something that helps you clear your mind and just be. This helps you get back to your core where your inspiration sits.
