For some people, winter is one of their favorite times of the year, but for others, including me, winter can be a time of feeling down and struggling with the cold, dark days and the pressure of holidays and of the start of a new year and all the expectations that come with that. This makes it very important to make sure you practice self-care during the winter.
Taking care of yourself, both mentally and physically, is more important than ever at this time of year. Try out some of my top tips for self-care during these winter months to help you feel better about those dark, cold and miserable days.
Pamper and treat yourself.
Cold, dark winter nights are the perfect time to treat yourself to a relaxing and pampering evening and catch up on some much-needed rest and relaxation. Have a long and hot bubble bath, apply your favorite face mask and give yourself an at-home manicure and pedicure. You will feel so pampered and relaxed – a perfect night’s sleep will be heading your way for sure.
Treat yourself to some new PJs.
This time of year, I love spending time in my comfy and cozy PJs. The best feeling ever is coming home from work and straight into comfy PJ’s, so treat yourself to a brand-new pair of winter warm PJ’s, a new fluffy warm dressing gown and some super comfy slippers and get yourself all comfy for some proper relaxation.
Indulge in a good book.
If you are struggling with this dark, cold, winter weather, then escape for a bit into a whole different world and spend some time relaxing with a good book. There is nothing better than curling up on the sofa and getting lost in the characters of a new book.
The thought of being outside at this time of year when it is dark and cold is the absolute worst but getting some fresh air and being outside really can help to boost your mood. A sunny and frosty day is perfect for being outside for a walk – the fresh air and sunshine will instantly make you feel more relaxed and at peace.
Get more sleep.
Getting a good night’s sleep is so important to help you feel relaxed and motivate you for a day at work. If you are struggling with your sleeping pattern or feeling tired at this time of year, then listen to your body and allow yourself to have some early nights and catch up on sleep.
