I cannot even begin to express how excited and honored and grateful I am to have been nominated for another blogger’s award. I owe so much of this to the bloggers’ community for giving me such an amazing, supportive place to grow as a blogger and as an individual. A big thanks goes to the wonderful Chloe from nyxiessnook.com for nominating me for The Blogger Recognition Award. I really hope you will take a few minutes to visit her blog and get to know her a little bit! She has such an amazing story that she’s sharing with us. Also, super excited that she’ll be a guest on our Self Care Sunday series in May. She’ll be chatting about some of her experiences and the importance that self-care is to her and her journey!
Wow, thank you so much for this nomination! It means so much to me. It is so motivating to be part of this. I have been blogging for over twelve years but just in the last few months but, I’ve really felt like I’ve found a tribe that I belong to. And it’s allowing me to open up more and share my story with a more vulnerable and honest approach.
It’s the awards and the recognitions like these that help keep me going on this venture of mine. These initiations help me feel like I’m on the right path. These exciting moments help inspire me and bring me confidence. So thank you, thank you, thank you!
Why I Started Blogging
Gosh, I’ve been blogging for so long, I almost feel like one of the old school gals of it. I love seeing the opportunities that the blogging community creates for the younger generations and for my age and up. There’s a place for everyone in this world.
The first blog I ever started was a crafting blog. It didn’t quite stick for me. It wasn’t that I didn’t enjoy it, I just wanted more than just crafting. I had more thoughts to share. The second blog I wrote was a foodie kind of niche. I would try recipes and share my experiences. Again, it just wasn’t quite there yet. I hadn’t found my place.
In 2010, Do Five Things A Day was born. This was a place I could go to escape. When I started this blog, I was had a handful of challenges in my life. One of those being some struggles with managing my Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. I found that some days it was tough to just get out of bed so I built a mindset to focus on just five things a day. This is where the meaning of my blog name was decided upon. (You can read the full thoughts on it here.)
Over the last nine years, it went from a place to get my thoughts out to a place where I could inspire others. Do Five Things A Day was the beginning of my self-care journey. My dream was turning it into a business. My aspiration was to use it to help others. And now I’m here. The blog has grown as I’ve grown.
Advice for New Bloggers
The biggest piece of advice I have for newbies is to follow your passion. Your blog, your writing, will reflect it. If you’re passionate and loving of what you do then it will shine in your work.
The second biggest piece of advice I have is to get yourself organized. Find your stride and get a plan together. My editorial calendar is my best friend (especially with owning and writing for three blogs). Everyone has their own style of organization – maybe it’s a digital calendar, maybe a notebook, whatever it is – do it. It’ll help you manage your time and you will be so much more productive.
And the best part of this – My Nominations:
